Christina and Olivia are a mother and daughter duo who operate Christina’s Gourmet Catering, Dinners and Workshops.
Their focus is all about Malaysian Nyonya Cuisine. Apart from catering, they have regular cooking Workshops, where the participants enjoy hands on experience of cooking a meal and savouring it. Along with the menu shoot, I had an opportunity to shoot for their workshop too and have some images to share with you along with the menu.
This was such an exciting shoot for me as I was looking for an opportunity where I can execute the entire process of styling and photographing. My previous shoots were mostly collaborative, wherein my entire focus would be on styling the set and leaving the rest to the photographer. Well, it does help as you get to solely focus on props and styling.
Now having this type of project was such an incredible experience and the best part was that it was really well worth the effort and time. My approach was pretty straight forward. I discussed each and every item on the menu and came up with a mood board. Creating a board in the Pinterest with the images that resonates the client’s brand and vision helps a lot. This gives you and your client an idea what of to expect!!!
Another exciting part was using my new speed light from Nikon. This is one of the best investment I have done in recent months to notch my skills while getting savvy with artificial lighting as well. Yes, I love natural light that is absolutely convenient and free but the flexibility of using speed lights with modifiers makes it consistent and reliable.
Finding things, getting the fear out of oneself and playing with your own strengths is a biggest milestone and being able to execute them with confidence feels like a real winner.
