This impressive caramelised pear upside down cake is the perfect dessert to kick start my baking repertoire. I love the fact that the top starts on the bottom and when it is flipped over it looks amazing.

Happy new year.. well, I know it is the beginning of March now. But it’s a new month of the year. First of all, thank you so much for all the love and support you have showered along these years. This is going to be my third year of blogging after a hiatus. So I am always drawn to this place and share some new recipes and photos that I click on an every day basis as part of my practice to hone my photography and composition skills.

Before I dive into this post, I want to know how was your break ? Did you get a chance to actually take a break ??

Mine was just perfect, 4 whole weeks !!! I had managed to cut off myself from distractions and mostly social media. I have now realised, how important it is to take a break and refuel yourselfwith fresh thoughts and energy. We humans beings, love glorifying our busy life and blame time for being mean to us. Taking a moment to relax, ponder and mostly believing in one self has helped me a lot. This is not a drama but a simple commitment that goes a long way.

Last year, one of my goal was to set up my own space and I could have easily done it but I always felt, I wasn’t ready for it. Now, with a fresh mind and believe, I am all set to build up my own place and turn our garage into a functional studio. This is actually happening and I am already in the process .. I really need your support and blessings.

Now coming to this beautiful part of the post, this moist cake was a perfect start for me.

My recipes here are always from the inspiration that I pick from various journals and fellow bloggers that I read and follow. I take those ideas and make it happen my own way. This particular cake is adapted from Donna hay and was basically a tart. I have used my own imagination and baked it as caramelised pear upside down cake.

Now it’s up to you, either you can take it further or simply bake this deliciousness.

How to bake Caramelised Pear Upside Down Cake


  • Caramelised Pear Upside Down Cake

    • 90g Butter, softened
    • ½ cup Brown sugar
    • 2 Eggs
    • 1 cup Almond meal
    • ¼ cup Plain flour
    • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
    • 2 tsp finely grated lemon rind
    • 2 to 3 Pears, peeled, and Halved
    • 1 /2 cup store brought caramel sauce
    • Double cream to serve

    Grease and line 20 cm spring form pan. Pour the caramel sauce over and spread them evenly with a spatula. Now place and arrange those halved pears with cheeks facing the bottom of the pan. Whisk butter and sugar in the bowl until just combined. Add the eggs, almond meal, flour, baking powder and lemon rind and mix until just combined.

    Spoon the mixture on the top of the pears. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until cooked when tested with a skewer. Invert into a serving plate. Serve with double cream.

    I love upside down cakes! They make for such a pretty picture!! I usually make the caramel to pour at the bottom of the cake, but this recipe makes the process simpler and quicker! Love the recipe!
