Vegetarian sausage roll definitely sounds intriguing… These days it is quite common to get hold of meat looking patties and sausages in the supermarket and they are 100% vegetarian.

My boys are a big fan of these nibbles ( particularly meat based sausages ) and I do make them often using with high quality meat as I do have reservations for processed food. Now this recipe itself is a derivation of vegetable cutlets that I  make with paneer. Very often, I just add things to a bowl till the mix reaches the consistency I like and the taste is balanced.

As we are gearing up for the biggest party season of the year, party sliders and starters are just few things we start to think of. This type of recipes comes in handy when you are hosting a party and would like to include couple of vegetarian recipes for guests. These vegetarian sausage rolls are indeed super easy to make and ideal for entertaining too. I have used fresh paneer and cooked quinoa to add the texture. Store brought puff pastry are equally handy too during these busy season.

 How to make Vegetarian sausage roll

Vegetarian Sausage rolls

  • 2 cups paneer
  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 brown onion finely diced
  • 2 tbsp brown rice powder ( bread crumbs as a substitute )
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • sea salt and pepper
  • 2 sheets frozen ready-rolled puff pastry, partially thawed
  • poppy seeds

Process paneer, quinoa, walnuts, onion, sauce in a food processor until finely chopped.

Transfer to a large bowl. Add brown rice powder, parsley, salt and pepper. Stir until well combined.

Place a sheet of pastry onto a flat surface. Cut in half.

Spoon 1/4 of the cheese mixture along 1 long edge of pastry. Roll pastry, enclosing filling.

Cut into 5 small sausage rolls. Using the flat edge of a knife, form 3 ridges along each sausage roll.

Transfer to prepared tray. Repeat with remaining filling and pastry.

Brush sausage rolls with the milk and sprinkle with poppy seeds.

Preheat oven to 200°c. Line a large baking tray with baking paper.

Bake for 25 minutes or until sausage rolls are golden and cooked through.

Serve hot with sweet chilli sauce.
